When the Golden Rule Fails:  A Workshop to Coach Executive Coaches

Wilson will lead a workshop demonstrating how to use differences in psychological type to the best advantage in a coaching situation, on Thursday, May 29 from 11:30-1:30 at North Carolina Wesleyan in RTP.

According to Wilson, executive coaches and trainers often treat their clients the way the coaches themselves would like to be treated.  He calls this the Golden Rule approach to coaching. However, this approach is less effective if the client is a different psychological type from the coach. Using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Wilson will facilitate a “coach the coaches” activity on how to reach difficult clients and clients of different type preferences from the coach.

This interactive workshop is geared to a general audience and would be useful to coaches, counselors, teachers, managers, or other professionals who work with people in a mentoring role.   The workshop is part of the Lunch and Learn Series sponsored by the RTP chapter of the Association of Psychological Type.  Participants are asked to bring $5 and their lunch to the seminar.  North Carolina Wesleyan is located at the intersection of Miami Boulevard and TW Alexander.

Based in Chapel Hill, Wilson has 14 years of experience coaching executives, manager and salespeople and conducting leadership development programs in corporations. He also leads business acumen simulations and teaches coaching and facilitating skills in medical schools nationwide.
